Academic Life: The academic opportunities were one of the main aspects that drew me to this program. I was able to take classes in English at Vesalius College with other English-speaking students from all over the world, as well as an advanced French grammar and conversation class that helped me communicate
abroad. Vesalius professors are experts in their field (mainly international politics and relations) so it was amazing to be able to learn from them. I also had the opportunity to take a class at the ULB, a French speaking University across the street from Vesalius, about the evolution of music and its importance in society. It was one of the most fascinating classes I’ve ever taken and I got to build a great relationship with the professor, who was encouraging and helpful when I had trouble understanding.

Navigating Differences: Studying abroad has made me so much more independent than I ever imagined. Though it was incredibly difficult at times, even the worst experiences taught me a lot about myself and my abilities. From visas and temporary residency permission to school registration, it was an awakening about how the world works outside the US.

Advice for Someone Considering Studying Abroad: Make a budget, but don’t be afraid to deviate once in a while!  You’ll very rarely regret spending the money. Experiences and memories are more valuable than anything, and the stories you’ll bring back are worth having to live off of Ramen for a
while.

“Studying abroad changes your perspective. You’re forced to
look beyond yourself and everything you’re used to.”
